A brief reminder to all you Midland Maniacs of a hard rawk/Metaaal persuasion that on the 11th September (ie Tuesday) something very hard, heavy, lowdown and sleazy is taking place at Birmingham 02 Academy 2. Because, cobbers, ockers and Sheilas, that’s when the one and only ROSE TATTOO- perhaps Australia’s greatest ever musical export – hove into town.
OK, many other Antipodean greats have graced us with their presence over the years- Skyhooks, Coloured Balls, Buster Brown, Sherbet, Spectrum/Murtceps, Ariel, Tamam Shud, The Easybeats/Flash & The Pan, Buffalo, Radio Birdman, INXS, Icehouse, Men At Work, Kings Of The Sun, Midnight Oil, Screaming Tribesmen, Screaming Jets, Diesel, the Angels, Doug Parkinson In Focus, Jeff St John, Ted Mulry, Grame Grace, Russell Morris, William Shakespeare, Syd Rumpo, the Masters’ Apprentices and obviously the one and only AC/DC themselves. Plus, in recent years, we’ve had the likes of the quite mindblowing King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard surfacing from the “Downunderground” to show us just how they freakout back in the Old Country. But still NOBODY- and I mean NOBODY- rocks quite like those Rosy Tats.
Fronted by the legendary Angry Anderson (and you can forget that fucking Neighbours wedding theme cobblers NOW!!) this will be RT’s first UK tour in quite some years: admittedly, we wondered if they’d ever grace our shores again, but ultimately, even the deaths of such pivotal members as Pete Wells, Mick Cocks and Dallas Digger Roxall couldn’t make the five-headed beast lie down. And with a new line-up featuring former ‘DC bassist Mark Evans, the double-A is once more ready to fight, rage and kick arse. Why? Because rock and roll is king, he’s a rock n roll outlaw, and nice boys DON’T PLAY rock n roll!! And if you don’t get that, you’re an Astra Wally!!
Naturally, the only combo capable of accompanying such a gang on its route-march across the UK would have to be even harder than them- and there’s nothing harder than a gaggle of no-bullshit London rock’n’roll women. I’m talking of course about GIRLSCHOOL: sure, there may have been other all-female rock outfits before them, such as She, Fanny, Isis and the Little Ladies (er, maybe not the last one, “O.K.?” – Cult TV Reference Joke Ed.) but the ‘School were the first to take the plunge into full-blown METAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL, back when it was still METAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL, and kick it soundly up its masculine leather-trousered arse. Hell, they were so hard they even frightened Motorhead!! And, if you arrive at the Academy early enough, the combined powers of Denise Dufort, Jackie Chambers, Kim McAuliffe and (oh, be still my beating heart- nearly 60 and STILL gorgeous) Enid Williams will scare the living shit out of you too. But they’ll do it with a smile.
So, get your arses down there and prepare for the double-bill to end ALL double-bills. Doors are at 7PM.
